Naperville police searching for boy seen with suspicious man

Naperville police are searching for a young boy who was last seen with a suspicious-looking man headed toward a wooded area late Monday afternoon.

Two witnesses called police at 4:50 p.m. about 10 minutes after seeing the boy with the man headed toward the woods.

Police responding to Country Lake Park, 736 Genesee Drive, found an abandoned bicycle in the spot the boy was last seen, said Naperville Police Sgt. John McAnally.

There have been no reports of a missing child since the search for the 7- to 10 year-old boy began, but police are attempting to search the area with the help of an airplane or helicopter, McAnally said.

The white child with blond hair was seen wearing a gray sweatshirt with red sleeves, according to police. The adult was described as approximately 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, and was wearing a dark knee-length coat, dark pants, a black hat and gloves, police said.

The bicycle was a Mongoose with front and back pegs.

There is a small playground and a softball diamond in the park just north of North Aurora Road and a few blocks west of Route 59. Police said the boy was last seen walking south from the playground and toward a heavily wooded area.

Police sounded a box alarm requesting the help of neighboring departments in the search and are working with the DuPage County sheriff's department. McAnally said the sheriff's department had not received any reports of missing children as of about 8:45 p.m.

Anyone with information about the boy or the missing bicycle is asked to call police at (630) 420-6173.
