Baseball/Fox Valley roundup

Mike Smith’s two-out single drove in the tying run in the top of the seventh inning and then Streamwood’s baseball team scored 3 runs in the eighth to come away with a 6-4 win at Oswego East in its season opener Saturday.

Dalton Lundeen not only got the win on the mound but also went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Sabres. Lundeen struck out 8, walked 2 and allowed 6 hits in his 7 innings. Richie Gorski picked up the save.

Robert Solda (RBI, 2 runs), Gorski (2-for-5, 3B) and Alex Morrow (2B, 2 RBI) also contributed to the Streamwood offense.

“Dalton pitched a great game and with solid defense we were able to hang on,” said Streamwood coach Steve Diversey.

Burlington Central 6, CL Central 3: Tanner Scott hit a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game and Cody Walker’s sacrifice fly gave Burlington Central the lead in this season-opening win on the road. Scott was 2-for-3, as was Ray Hunnicutt. Zach Ranney needed only 80 pitches for the complete-game win. He struck out 6, walked 1 and allowed just 5 hits.

Ottawa 10, Cary-Grove 8: Daniel Villardo and Nick Beyer each homered and doubled for Cary-Grove (1-1) in this nonconference loss on the road. They also each had 2 RBI, while Matt Byrne drove in one run. Andrew Brierton suffered the loss for the Trojans.

St. Edward loses 2: The Green Wave opened the season with losses of 11-5 and 10-0 at Nazareth. Jacob Koehring and Joe Disparte each had doubles in Game 2. Luke Duffy took the loss. Ty Koehring had a double and was the losing pitcher in Game 2.

Richmond 7, CL South 5: Will Ahsmann was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Dom Winiecki was 2-for-3 for the Gators (2-1) in this nonconference loss. Tyler Parquette suffered the loss for CL South.

Elk Grove 4, Bartlett 2: Colin Nowak homered and Ryan Roczkowiak had a double for Bartlett in the Hawks’ season-opening loss. Dan Gallanis only allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks in suffering the loss.

College baseball

Judson sweeps: Judson defeated Illinois Tech 6-2 and 8-1 to improve to 3-0 in the CCAC. George Heller and T.J. Swank picked up the pitching wins for the Eagles (17-5). Nick Norris had 3 hits and Billy Wright 4 RBI on the day, but Wright’s hitting streak ended at 14 in Game 2. Johnny Amann and Josh Raymond each had home runs in the wins for Judson.
