St. Edward splits: Ty Koering had a double and 2 RBI and Ryan Nudd was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI as St. Edward won Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader against Hinckley-Big Rock 10-0 in five innings. Jake Lefrenz (2-0) tossed a 3-hiotter with 10 strikeouts and no walks for the Green Wave. In the nightcap, Korhring (2B, RBI) and Michael Castro each had 2 hits for St. Edward in a 7-6 loss. Jack Tierney suffered the loss for the Wave.

Glenbrook South 15, Dundee-Crown 2: Ryan Suwanski (3-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Dylan Kissack (2-for-3, 2B) led the Dundee-Crown offense in this nonconference loss. Mike Hazelhurst also had an RBI for the Chargers (2-1-1). Kyle Deatley was the losing pitcher.

Downers South 1, Jacobs 0: Jacobs managed only 2 hits and the only run of the game scored on a fifth-inning balk in this nonconference contest. Nick Ledinsky was the losing pitcher for the Golden Eagles (0-3).

Hoffman Estates 8, Huntley 2: The Red Raiders lost for the second time without a win, allowing 6 runs in the fifth inning. Brody Burkart (2-for-4), Nick Corpolando (2-for-3) and Mark Skonieczny (HR) led the Huntley offense. Bryce Only added a double for the Red Raiders and Jake Wagner was the losing pitcher.

Hampshire 6, Round Lake 4: Senior Mike Laramie drove in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to lift Hampshire (1-0-1) to a nonconference road win.The victory was the first for new Hampshire field boss John Sarna, whose team tied DeKalb in 10 innings on Monday.“I’ve been sitting on that 10-inning tie for about a week, so to get that off our back feels good,” Sarna said. Hampshire starting pitcher Luke Wians struck out 7, walked 2 and held Round Lake scoreless on 1 hit in 5 innings. Round Lake scored 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Brandon Wescher to force extra innings, but Wescher retired the Panthers in the eighth to seal the win for Hampshire.
