Jacobs nabs first win for Murray

It took 12 long innings against a quality opponent, but the Jacobs baseball team finally got its first win for new coach Jamie Murray Tuesday.

Greg Sidor’s walk off RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning plated the game’s only run as the Golden Eagles downed Conant 1-0.

“It’s a big shot in the arm for this young group,” Murray said. “We got the first W out of the way after some tough losses. These battles will help prepare us for the Fox Valley Conference.”

Zach Camacho, Greg Mixon and Evan Blunk each pitched 4 innings for Jacobs (1-3) with Blunt getting the win. They combined to allow just 5 hits. Ryan Ulmer added a key single for the Eagles in the 12th.

“It was a great ending to an unbelievable game,” Murray said.

Streamwood 5, Hampshire 4: Richie Gorski notched a complete-game victory as the Sabres (4-2) held off a late Hampshire rally. Gorski allowed 6 hits with 8 strikeouts and no walks to get the best of Hampshire’s Dan Keller. Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Alex Morrow (2 SBs) led the Sabres, while Luke Wians (2-for-4, 2B), Brandon Wescher (2B, RBI) and Shane Hernandez (2-for-3, 2 B, 2 RBI) carried the Whip-Purs (2-1-1). “Gorski lived on his fastball,” said Hampshire coach John Sarna. “He’s the best pitcher we’ve faced.”
