Pitching keeps Hersey perfect

Hersey continued its pitcher-perfect start in Monday’s nonconference baseball showdown with visiting Stevenson in Arlington Heights.

Trevor Haas and Aaron DeGeorge combined on a 4-hitter and Sean Hardiman’s two-out RBI double in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Huskies a 2-1 victory as they improved to 6-0.

Haas allowed 3 hits in 8 innings with no walks and 9 strikeouts as he threw 72 of his 100 pitches for strikes. The only run allowed by the senior right-hander in the sixth was unearned.

DeGeorge allowed only 1 hit in 3 innings with 2 strikeouts to get the victory as Hersey has allowed only 13 runs this season.

Hersey couldn’t break through on threats when it had second-and-third with one out in the seventh and James Ioratti doubled and reached third with one out in the ninth. But in the 11th, Sean Reszotko reached on a one-out single and error and Hardiman provided the dramatic finish with a double to right.

Hersey scored its other run in the third when Tyler Perkowitz singled, raced to third on a wild pickoff and scored on Haas’ groundout to shortstop.

Senior Mike Danielak (2-0) also gave Hersey a spectacular pitching performance Saturday in a 3-0 win over Evanston. The only hit Danielak allowed was with one out in the fifth as he had 15 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Buffalo Grove 6, Highland Park 5: Jimmy Barton’s RBI single to right-center in the bottom of the seventh capped a Buffalo Grove (4-7) comeback from a 5-1 deficit. Junior Adam Kowalski threw 2 innings of hitless relief with 2 strikeouts for the victory.

Mike DiViesti had an RBI single in a 3-run fourth and a tying RBI single in the sixth. Jimmy Pinakidis’ leadoff infield single in the seventh and Richie Zirngibl’s walk set up Barton’s game-winning hit.

Rolling Meadows 8, Maine South 6: Rolling Meadows (4-3) struck out 14 times but did plenty of damage when it made contact as it jumped to a 6-0 lead after two innings and held on for the nonconference home victory. Eric Lowe went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, Mike Dolan was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Matt Hendricks had a sacrifice fly.

Mickey Wazorick had only 1 strikeout in 6 innings but hung tough for the victory. Hendricks got the final three outs for the save and left runners at first and second with his second strikeout.

Fremd 8, Crystal Lake Central 2: Jason English threw a complete-game 3-hitter and Zach Kolakowski, Josh Jyawook and Jack Andersen drove in 2 runs apiece as Fremd (6-2) extended its winning streak to six in the nonconference win in Crystal Lake.

Jack Holden was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, Jordan Grubb had a 3-run double in the fourth and Holden and Chris Carlson had squeeze bunts.

Jacobs 10, Palatine 6: Palatine (3-8) had 4 extra-base hits but couldn’t hold a 6-3 lead after three innings as Jacobs took the lead with a 5-run fifth. Dan Riddle went 2-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI, Kurt Becker was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Eric Scheuermann had an RBI triple for the Pirates.
