Aurora man accused of making fake drivers licenses

An Aurora man has been charged with manufacturing phony drivers licenses from Illinois and other states.

The Illinois secretary of state's office says 21-year-old Akash Reddy used his computer skills to create and sell at least 500 phony drivers licenses. Authorities say he sold the authentic-looking documents and identification cards for $50 to $60 each, primarily to other college students.

Secretary of State spokeswoman Beth Kaufman tells the Chicago Sun-Times that Reddy, apparently enrolled in an online program, may have used some of the money to pay his tuition.

Authorities say a search of Reddy's Aurora home by investigators turned up $25,000 and a variety of equipment to manufacture the licenses, including laminators and hologram imprinters.

Reddy, who is free on bail, couldn't be reached for comment.
