Goodman Theatre to stage latest by 2012 Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes
Goodman Theatre will stage the latest from 2012 Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes as part of its previously announced 2012-2013 season.
Hudes’ play “Water by the Spoonful” — about a U.S. soldier wrestling with his demons following his return from the Iraq War — was named the winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for drama Monday.
Earlier this year, Goodman announced it will stage the world premiere of Hudes’ most recent play, “The Happiest Song Plays Last” — about a veteran who attempts to find solace from his trauma as an action hero, and his cousin, who attempts to bring solace to the homeless who make up her community — beginning April 13, 2013 in the Owen Theatre.
A 2007 Pulitzer finalist for “Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue,” Hudes also wrote the Tony Award nominated book for the Broadway musical “In the Heights.”
Goodman will also stage one of 2012’s Pulitzer finalists, “Other Desert Cities,” Jon Robin Baitz’s drama about a young woman whose tell-all memoir threatens to tear apart her well-heeled family. Henry Wishcamper directs the play’s Chicago premiere beginning Jan. 12, 2013 in the Albert Theatre.
