Elgin teen charged with sexual assault of a child
An Elgin teenager has been charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to court records.
Julio C. Mendoza, 18, of the 200 block of Channing Street, appeared in bond court Monday for the felony offense. Mendoza is charged with having sex with an 11-year-old between January 1 and April 12, according to court documents.
The Kane County Child Advocacy Center is handling the case.
Bail was set at $500,000 Monday, of which Mendoza must pay 10 percent to be released before his next court date, scheduled for April 25 in St. Charles. Mendoza is being held in the Kane County jail in lieu of bond.
If convicted of the felony, Mendoza could face 6 to 30 years in prison.
