Coyotes return home after knocking off Blackhawks

PHOENIX — Several hundred fans showed up to greet the Phoenix Coyotes in their return from a triumphant trip to Chicago.

The Coyotes wrapped up their first playoff series win since 1987 by beating the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 in Game 6 of their first-round playoff series Monday night. Phoenix won the series 4-2 after capturing its first division title in 33 years as a franchise, which was originally known as the Winnipeg Jets.

The Coyotes have made hockey popular again in the Valley of the Sun on their way to winning their first playoff series in eight tries since moving to the desert in 1996.

Phoenix next will face the Nashville Predators, who knocked off the Detroit Red Wings in the first round.
