Pitching matchups: The Cubs' Paul Maholm (2-2) vs. Chad Billingsley (2-1) today at 1:20 p.m.; Matt Garza (2-1) vs. Chris Capuano (3-0) Saturday at 12:05 p.m.; Chris Volstad (0-3) vs. Aaron Harang (1-2) Sunday at 1:20 p.m.

At a glance: Now under new ownership, the Dodgers (17-8) are the surprise first-place team in the National League West. The talk of the league is Matt Kemp, who has a hitting line of .411/.500/.856 to lead the league in each category along with home runs (12). Kemp's OPS is a ridiculous 1.356. Teammate Andre Ethier entered Thursday leading the NL in RBI (27). Cubs first baseman Bryan LaHair hit his seventh homer Thursday, and he entered the day second to Kemp in OPS. The Cubs are quite familiar with Capuano and Harang from their days with the Brewers and Reds, respectively. The Cubs were 3-3 against the Dodgers last year, 1-2 at Wrigley Field.
