Devils clinch share of NSC Lake title

Warren’s softball team avenged a loss to Zion-Benton on Tuesday and in the process also clinched a share of the North Suburban Lake Division championship.

The Blue Devils won 8-0 in Zion, increasing their winning streak to eight games, as Jana Wagner pitched the complete-game shutout. She struck out 10, allowed 2 hits and walked just one.

Warren (27-4-1) moved to 10-1 in the NSC Lake, while Zion-Benton fell to 8-2 in the division. The Blue Devils can win the NSC Lake title outright with a win at Libertyville next Tuesday.

Warren’s top hitters included Megan Sowa, who went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Anna Balch had a single, double and triple.

Warren’s 27 wins are 1 shy of the school record, which the Blue Devils accomplished two years ago.

Antioch 22, Round Lake 4 (5 inn.): Jessica Pedersen hit 3 doubles and had 2 RBI, and Jessica Tyrell added 2 doubles and 2 RBI, as Antioch improved its record to 19-12 and 7-3 in the North Suburban Prairie.

Sequoits who also doubled included Sage Keyes, who had 4 RBI, and Taylor Schiltz. Winning pitcher Katie Keefe slammed a triple.

Other offensive standouts included Kaylene Ressler, who went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Mackenzie Thomas, who went 3-for-5 with 4 RBI.

Lake Zurich 8, Carmel 6: The Bears were led by Maria Schroeder who had 3 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI and Carlee Parsons, who had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Mallory Parsons and winning pitcher Shannon McPeek added 2 hits apiece for Lake Zurich (19-8) in the nonconference game.

Mundelein 14, Libertyville 3 (5 inn.): Hailey Morelli doubled twice, and Alex Hemmer, Maddie Zazas (3 RBI) and Abbey Rosenow (4 RBI) added a double apiece for the Mustangs.

Erin Kennelly pitched a complete game, allowing 6 hits.

Grayslake Central 4, Woodstock North 0: The Rams broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning to score their runs in their Fox Valley Fox Division contest.

Sarah Kuligowski hit a 3-run double, and Jamie Brew’s single scored Kuligowski.

Tayler Janda scattered 10 hits to earn the shutout for Grayslake Central.

Crystal Lake Central 3, Grayslake North 0: The Knights were upset in Fox Valley Conference action.

Courtney Petersen went 2-for-3 for Grayslake North. Kristi Gandy suffered the loss, despite striking out nine.

Stevenson 18, Lake Forest 2 (5 inn.): Sam Feder pitched the first 3 innings and struck out 6, and freshman Lindsay Micucci had an impressive varsity debut, as the Patriots improved to 8-19 and 4-5 in the North Suburban Lake.

Micucci pitched the fourth and fifth innings, facing 7 batters, striking out one and allowing no walks.

Offensively, the Patriots dominated the game with 15 hits. Cailin Rubenstein went 2-for-5, including a triple, 2 runs and 2 RBI. Lexi Yonkovic had 2 hits, 3 RBI and 4 runs. Ali Castriano and Nicole Alesi had 2 hits apiece.
