Where’s help for those who play by the rules?

Where’s MY mortgage relief? That’s the question I and millions of other American mortgagees in good standing with stable employment and solid credit have for President Obama.

As an underwater mortgagee who’s been in good standing since the inception of the loan six years ago, I’m beginning to wonder why I continue to write my mortgage check each month when a great number of Americans choose to do the opposite only to be offered substantial assistance under the Making Home Affordable program.

I’m not referring to those with legitimate hardships but to those that simply choose not to pay their mortgage.

Another contention I have is with Bank of America, which services millions of mortgages guaranteed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. These mortgages do not qualify for the new principle reduction agreement stemming from the recent $25 billion federal settlement. Why not? We didn’t choose or not choose to have our loan backed by these government entities.

They were traded back and forth like playing cards in a criminalistic kids game for pennies on the dollar and guess what, we’re the ones who lost!

Continuing to offer little or no assistance to the millions of Americans who honored their mortgage commitments while rewarding others who just simply decided not to pay their bills will only escalate the distrust and lack of hope in our financial institutions, federal government and the American way of life.

Mr. President, you ran on a campaign of “hope.” I “hope” you start rewarding those that stayed the course, did the right thing and continue to forge ahead with what’s left of their American dream.
