Des Plaines veterans help dispose of U.S. flags properly

Des Plaines residents who would like their old U.S. flags properly disposed of by local military veterans are invited to a June 14 Flag Day ceremony at the Lake Park Memorial Pavilion, 2200 Lee St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Members of Des Plaines veterans’ organizations, American Legion Post 36 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2992, will ceremoniously dispose of tattered and worn out flags.

Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan will read a proclamation declaring June 11-16 United States Army Week in Des Plaines in honor of the Army’s 237th birthday.

Demonstrations on how to properly fold U.S. flags will be given and Army recruiters from Mount Prospect will be in attendance.

The Des Plaines Park District, Des Plaines Fire Department and the mayor’s office are assisting with arrangements.
