Willow Creek celebrates 40th anniversary

In a building more accustomed to hearing the cheers of raucous Chicago Blackhawks and Bulls fans, more than 20,000 worshippers gathered Sunday night to pray, sing and celebrate the 40th anniversary of a suburban church that's become a religious phenomenon. Naperville fifth-grader on a mission to save Halloween house

Visiting a popular Halloween house in Naperville has been a tradition for 11-year-old Sara Marston since she was 3 years old. Every October for the past 18 years, Nick Thomas' house and yard on Conan Doyle Drive in Naperville has been made to look like a haunted cemetery, with more than 2,000 display pieces and a large light show synchronized to music. But when the decorations were canceled this year because of holiday display restrictions set by the homeowners association, Sara started a petition to "save the haunted house in Ashbury." Buffalo Grove might levy new stormwater fee

Buffalo Grove property owners soon could be paying an extra fee to help the village maintain and improve its stormwater system. Tonight, the village board is expected to consider a new stormwater utility fee for homes as well as commercial properties. Full story.

New venue wins over Cyclocross Cup riders

The annual Chicago Cyclocross Cup race held in Carpentersville took a detour Sunday, as issues with Carpenter Park's readiness prompted a location switch. But the change of venue didn't seem to faze the hundreds of racers who brought their bikes to the temporary location, Randall Oaks Park in West Dundee. Full story.

Bears drop back-and-forth game to Lions

Running back Matt Forte summed up the Bears' gut-wrenching, 37-34 overtime loss to the previously winless Lions as well as anyone. "A bunch of missed opportunities," Forte said, noting the 3 turnovers and 10 penalties for 98 yards the Lions committed. "The game was basically given to us." But the Bears refused to take it.
