Crystal Lake 5K Run to benefit animal shelter

Helping Paws Animal Shelter will hold its Panting for Paws 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at Lippold Park, 851 W Terra Cotta, Route 176, Crystal Lake.

Early registration for the 5K Run/Walk is $25 through Nov. 1 and includes a free T-shirt, and is $30 after Nov. 1. Packets may be picked up from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at Helping Paws, 2500 Harding Lane, Woodstock, (815) 338-4400, or from 7 to 8:30 a.m. on Race Day at Lippold Park.

A 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m., and registration is $10 from now until the race. Both races will start and end near the baseball pavilion in the northeast section of the park. Participants 13 or younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Awards will be given out at an Awards Ceremony by the pavilion after the race, and will be given for Overall Top Male and Female, and top three for each age group. Overall winners not eligible to win an age group award.

Although the proceeds from this race will benefit the dogs and cats of Helping Paws, for the safety of everyone, there will be no pets allowed on any of the race paths.

However, pets who are leashed and up-to-date on their shots are welcome at the park as a spectator with their humans.
