Maple Park board fills two vacancies

The Maple Park village board filled its two vacancies last week.

It approved the appointments of Greg Cutsinger and Steve Nowak. Both will serve until April 2013, when the next consolidated election will be held.

They replace Mark Delaney and Nick Moisa, who decided not to run for re-election.

There were three 4-year seats available in the April 5 election, but only Patricia Lunardon was on the ballot.

Five people applied for appointment to the board, Village President Kathleen Curtis said.

“They just seemed to have the skills we need to meet our goals,” and enthusiasm for the work, Curtis said of Cutsinger and Nowak. “We’re really glad to have them aboard.”

Their first meeting will be May 17 for a committee of the whole session.

Cutsinger, 41, has lived in Maple Park four years and manages a trucking company’s terminal in South Elgin.

“My family and I have grown to enjoy living in Maple Park since we have moved here. I want to be able to help the village continue its efforts to grow, yet keep its small-town feel,” Cutsinger said in an email interview.

Nowak is 31, and has lived in Maple Park for nine years. He’s engaged to be married in June and does not have any children. Nowak is vice president of commercial banking for MB Financial Bank in St. Charles, and for him, too, it is the first time serving in any civic or political position.

“Having a chance to serve on the village board will hopefully give me an opportunity to give back to the place I call home and make it a great place to raise a family,” he said in an email interview.
