Braeburn Marsh scheduled burn next week

A controlled burn to rid Braeburn Marsh of invasive cattails has been scheduled for next week. Applied Ecological Services will clear the vegetation Monday through Wednesday if weather permits. If it doesn't, the company will try again Nov. 30 to Dec. 4.

Aurora baby sitter guilty of child sex assault

A 63-year-old Aurora man faces up to 37 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a child he was baby sitting. A Kane County jury late Tuesday convicted Jerald E. Spring on one count of predatory criminal sexual assault and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Man pleads not guilty to dealing crack in Aurora

A Chicago has pleaded not guilty to charges he sold drugs to undercover officers in the Western suburbs. Michael A. Mattix, 46, of the 1900 block of North Sayre Avenue, was arraigned Wednesday in front of Kane County Judge Thomas E. Mueller, who set his next court date for Dec. 11.

The Kane County Board won't wake up from its budget nightmares even if it finds $1.2 million at the last minute to help Sheriff Pat Perez' budget in 2009.
