Someone removed two signs on the south side of a business on the 400 block of South First Street between Oct. 9 and 12, police said. The signs were still on scene and not damaged.

The 8th Illinois Cavalry Civil War re-enactment regiment will have a Veterans Day service at 10 a.m. today at the Newton War Memorial in the Batavia West-Side Cemetery, Route 31 and Morton St. Nine men from Batavia served with the 8th from 1861 to 1865.

Someone shot a pellet gun into a home in the 600 block of Wellington Avenue Thursday evening, leaving holes in several windows. Reports said four panes of glass measuring 20 inches by 16 inches, as well as one pane of glass measuring 16 inches by 6 inches, were damaged.

The Falconaires, a division of the U.S. Air Force Academy Band, will hold a free performance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Hemmens Cultural Center. The 18-member Falconaires is one of the Air Force's two top jazz ensembles and plays a mix of traditional and contemporary big band jazz.
