Round Lake Park announces ‘Street Sweep’ arrest

Round Lake Park police have announced another arrest stemming from a continuing investigation in cooperation with federal authorities focused on illegal drugs.

Police say reputed street gang member Misael Vargas, 17, of 212 W. Fairfield Terrace in Round Lake Park, has been charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful use of weapon.

Authorities said an arrest warrant was executed at the Fairfield address about 6 p.m. March 26. Recovered were 315 grams of marijuana, worth approximately $7,000, digital scale, packaging material, black metal knuckles and $189 cash, police said. Round Lake Park police, the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have worked together targeting gangs and illegal drugs in the area, through Operation Street Sweep, since May 2012.
