SPRINGFIELD -- Police say they have arrested three people in connection with the beating death of a Springfield man inside a room at a local motel.

The victim, 32-year-old Thomas A. Vicari Jr. was found dead in a room at the Red Roof Inn early Friday morning.

Sangamon County Coroner Susan Boone's office says an autopsy showed Vicari died head injuries.

Police say the three arrested were two Springfield men, ages 22 and 20, and a 21-year-old Riverton woman.

Springfield Deputy Police Chief Clay Dowis says investigators believe Vicari was killed during the course of a robbery.

The murder was Springfield's eighth of the year.
