Seattle-based sculptor Scott Fife will explain the methods behind his creations of large-scale heads of historical and popular culture figures during a lecture at Elgin Community College (ECC) on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The free lecture will be held from 1-2 p.m. in the Advanced Technology Center Auditorium on main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Fife uses cardboard, screws and glue for his larger-than-life creations of figures such as Abraham Lincoln, Bob Dylan and Popeye the sailor. His lecture will feature several examples of his cardboard heads and large-scale ink drawings - which also will be displayed through Wednesday, Dec. 23 in Safety-Kleen Gallery One in ECC's Visual and Performing Arts Center.

The lecture is part of the ECC 2009-2010 Humanities Center Speakers Series and sponsored by the ECC Liberal, Visual and Performing Arts Division, ECC Student Life and the ECC Humanities Center. Established in fall 2006, the series navigates today's intellectual landscape by bringing new and renowned speakers to the ECC community.
