Elgin Choral Union to hold its auditions

The Elgin Choral Union will hold auditions for its 2007-08 season Thursday, Tuesday and Aug. 23 at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, in Elgin.

Music director Andrew Lewis will conduct the auditions and piano accompaniment will be provided.

The Choral Union's 2007-08 61st season will include the concert performance of Handel's "Messiah" at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 and "The Joys of Christmas" at 7 p.m. Dec. 15. It also will highlight "Lord Nelson Mass" by Haydn and Schubert's Mass in G Minor at 7 p.m. May 10.

The Choral Union will be joining the Elgin Symphony Orchestra for its Holiday Showcase concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

On Feb. 29 and March 1-2, the Choral Union will be featured in the Elgin Symphony Orchestra's Russian Masterworks concert.

For the audition, singers will be asked to sing a selection of their choice and be asked to do brief sight singing. Auditions will be held in the Elgin Community College Arts Center, Room 164M. Singers should bring three copies of their music: one for the director, accompanist and their own use.
