Man charged in fatal stabbing

A Chicago man was charged Monday with the stabbing death of a 25-year-old Arlington Heights woman who was found murdered in the man's apartment early Sunday morning, police said.

Patrick Ford, 25, of 1043 W. Grace St., confessed to the slaying of Prospect High School graduate Dana E. Mangi, said officer John Mirabelli from Chicago Police News Affairs.

Ford summoned police to his apartment about 5:30 a.m. Sunday where they found Mangi's body, he said. Ford was taken from the apartment with cut wounds, police said.

The two knew each other, but the motive is unknown, police said.

Mangi was a 2000 graduate of Prospect High School, where she was on the honor roll, was named an Illinois State Scholar and was involved in many extracurricular activities.

She was a 2004 graduate of Loyola University in Chicago, where she was on the dean's list throughout her career, majoring in communications and pre-veterinary studies.

Mangi was remembered by fellow Prospect High School graduate and Loyola University alum Patrick Quinlan as an upbeat, fun person, who was active in high school chamber choir.

When Mangi found out that Quinlan, who was two years behind her at Prospect, was going to attend Loyola, she insisted on taking him on a tour of the campus and parts of Chicago, he said.

"I just remember her laughing all the time," said Quinlan, who now lives in Los Angeles. "She was the nicest person."

Family members declined to comment on Monday.

Visitation for Mangi will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Hwy. in Arlington Heights.

Prayers for Mangi will be said at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A 10 a.m. Mass is scheduled at St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights. Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum in Des Plaines.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anti-Cruelty Society, 157 W. Grand Ave., Chicago, IL 60610, or Susan B. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
