Barrington Hills crash kills Lindenhurst man

A 42-year-old Lindenhurst man died Tuesday morning after his car was hit by a semi-trailer truck at Algonquin and Old Sutton roads in Barrington Hills.

Police said their preliminary investigation showed the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Arturo Hernandez failed to yield when it was smashed by a 2006 Sterling truck, around 6:30 a.m.

The silver Volkswagen was going south on Old Sutton Road, and was hit by the westbound truck while crossing Algonquin Road, Barrington Hills police said.

Barrington firefighters extricated Hernandez from the car, but he died at the scene.

The driver of the white truck, Sean Galla, 39, of St. Charles, was treated and released at the scene, police added.

Traffic on Algonquin Road halted until around 9:45 a.m., while police and other authorities investigated the crash. State police also conducted a commercial motor vehicle inspection on the truck.

Police say they are continuing to investigate.
