Ratay will return to coach HE girls basketball

Alicia Ratay, who earlier in the year resigned as the Hoffman Estates varsity girls basketball coach to pursue a career in the WNBA, is now expected back to lead the Hawks again this winter.

"Alicia has stepped up to the plate and taken the job because we wanted a coach who taught in the building," said Hoffman athletic director Gene Curran.

Ratay teaches math at Hoffman and was an All-American guard for the Notre Dame basketball team that won the NCAA title in 2001.

Ratay was an all-state guard for Lake Zurich High School.

Hoops Showdown change: Because of a scheduling conflict, Warren will replace Buffalo Grove in the girls game of the 11th annual Meijer High School Hoops Showdown at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

Warren and Fenwick will play at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 19, 2008. Two boys games will follow -- Jacobs vs. Fenwick at 6:30 p.m. and Batavia vs. Marshall at 8:30 p.m.
