U-46 radio station to air 'Made in America' Sept. 3

Elgin Area School District U-46's radio station, WEPS, will celebrate Labor Day with special programs on Sept. 3.

At 10 a.m., "Made in America," a national organization of 65 orchestras, will feature the American Symphony Orchestra League and Meet the Composer in the largest co-commission ever planned by a consortium of American Orchestras.

At least one orchestra from each of the 50 states joined together to commission a new work by American composer Joan Tower. She created "Made in America," which will air on Labor Day. Enjoy the world premiere of "Made in America" as it was performed last October by the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra with music director Charles Peltz.

At 11 a.m., country maverick Willie Nelson and jazz icon Wynton Marsalis sing the Blues in "Willie Nelson Sings the Blues."

On Thursdays, Sept. 6 through Dec. 6, a new one-hour series, "The Cliburn Winners," debuts at 11 a.m. The 13-part series features performances from outstanding pianists who have been gold, silver and bronze medalists, and finalists and semifinalists at the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. There will be no program on Thanksgiving Day. For details, visit www.u-46.org.
