Briefs: Guilty in check case
A Buffalo Grove man was placed on probation for two years Thursday after he admitted he cashed a check on a closed account at a Grayslake currency exchange. Ralph Brodacz, 51, of 318 Half Day Road, pleaded guilty to deceptive practices during a hearing before Lake County Circuit Judge George Bridges. On Dec. 29, Brodacz cashed a check for $5,100 at the Grayslake Currency Exchange, 1802 E. Route 120. The owner of the currency exchange later discovered the account the check was drawn on had been closed for two years, and several attempts to get Brodacz to return the money were unsuccessful, Assistant State's Attorney Marykay Foy said. Brodacz paid the full restitution to the currency exchange as he entered his plea and was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.
