Ellett leads Hampshire to win; CLS soccer falls

Medalist Taylor Ellett set the path for Hampshire with a 40 Wednesday as the Whip-Purs' girls golf team defeated the West Aurora JV 214-232.

Jessie Van Dorin shot a 54 for the Whip Purs. while teammates Tina Tuminarro and Alex Field each contributed by shooting 60.

Boys soccer

Carmel 2, Crystal Lake South 1: The Gators (7-3-1) fell to Carmel in nonconference play. Jordan Innis scored the only goal of the game for Crystal Lake South off an assist from Matt Zaluckyj. Zach Dalzell was in goal and collected 8 saves.

Jacobs 2, Bartlett 0: At the Bartlett Tournament theGolden Eagles (2-5) defeated Bartlett 2-0. David Arriaga managed to score Jacobs' first goal off a penalty kick in the second half. Bogdan Buzdugan scored the only other goal for the Eagles on an assist from Greg Pignataro. Danny Trevor was in goal for Jacobs and collected 3 saves.

Boys golf

Prairie Ridge d. Woodstock: The Wolves (4-2) defeated Woodstock (5-3) at Prairie Isle 158-167. Mike Ungari of Praire Ridge was the medalist shooting a 37. The Wolves were also led by Kyle Sherman who shot a 39. Teammates Ben Boncosky and Kyle Sobeski each contributed with a score of 41.

Driscoll d. St. Edward: The Green Wave (4-3, 2-2) fell short in their third close loss of the season to Driscoll by a score of 158-161. At Glendale Lakes with a par of 35, St. Edward medalist Eric Winters shot a 36. Brad Winters followed close behind and shot a 37, while Brett Manning contributed shooting a 39. Jack Michel added a score of 49 but it wasn't enough to turn the Green Wave around.

Grayslake Central d. Huntley: In a Fox Valley (Fox) match-up the Red Raiders fell to Grayslake Central 175-194 at Stonewall Orchard. Huntley was led by Alex Zielinski, who shot a team low of 40. Chris Krawczyk added a score of 49. Brian Ackermann shot a 50 and Nate Huxtable followed behind with a 51.

Women's Soccer

ECC 3, St. Ambrose JV 0: The Spartans (4-1) defeated the St. Ambrose junior varsity team 3-0. Emily Smith was the first to score for Elgin off an assist from Abby Hoeflich. Hoeflich then returned to score from an assist by teammate Stacey Wohlhart. Kristen Rukhaderles scored the third goal off an assist from Wohlhart. Stephanie Mariotti was in goal and had 2 saves.

St. Xavier 2, Judson 0: Two top five NAIA Region VII teams squared off at Dawson Field as St. Xavier (6-0, 1-0) came away victorious over Judson University (1-2-1). SXU is currently No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in NAIA Region VII while Judson is ranked No. 5 in the region.

With 31 fouls called, a very physical battle went to SXU. SXU was called for 18 fouls to JU's 13. SXU dominated the first half with nine shots to Judson's two. The Cougars scored in the 22nd minute on a Judson team save. SXU's Jessica Martinez headed in the score after a JU defender cleared the ball out of the box to make it 1-0. JU's Rebecca O'Donnell had 6 saves in the first period.

Judson came out strong in the second half and outplayed St. Xavier but could not get the ball in the goal. JU had several chances to score and out-shot the Cougars 6-3. SXU broke the JU offensive pressure in the 86th minute when it scored on a corner kick. SXU's Lissa Coby sailed a perfect ball into the box as Aleks Sudar netted the second goal of the game.

JU's O'Donnell finished the game with 7 saves.
