28-year-old pedestrian dies in Palatine car crash
A car fatally struck a 28-year-old man early this morning in Palatine on Rand Road.
Witnesses say another person was with the deceased, and police are waiting for that person to come forward, Palatine police Cmdr. Sam Maki said.
Juvenal Medina died at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights after a Ford Mustang hit him shortly before 1:30 a.m. today on the 1100 block of North Rand Road. The driver of the Ford - a 43-year-old man - called 911 and isn't expected to be ticketed, Maki said.
The Ford was going northwest in the lane next to the curb when it hit Medina, who was in the street, Maki said.
"We don't know Mr. Medina's intentions," Maki said. "He was in the roadway; the vehicle never left the roadway."
Medina was wearing dark clothes, and there were no traffic-control devices or stop signs in the vicinity. Police continue to investigate.
