Bartlett impresses with invitational triumph

The Bartlett boys golf team had a huge day as it finished 16 strokes ahead of the nearest competitor with a 300 at the third annual Elgin Invite at Bartlett Hills.

"It's always nice to win an invite," said Hawks coach Tom Boyle. "This is a big-time win."

Not only did the Hawks have three golfers finish in the top 10, they finished 1-2-3 as Trace Pomplan (73) took the top spot with Ryan Oberg and Nick Quagliano shooting 74 to go second and third, respectively. Anthony Burdi shot a 79 to finish the team scoring.

"Trace shot an excellent round," Boyle said. "Oberg bogeyed his last three holes, so to finish with a 74 is amazing."

South Elgin rounded off the top five as Sean Reagan (75) and Andrew Buddle (76) helped with the Storm's fifth-place finish with a score of 327.

"They're familiar with the course, but it's still tough," said Storm coach Jay Bartholomew. "It's pretty awesome to have those two scores."

St. Charles North took third place with a 316 as Tony D'Amico and Matt Schroeder both shot 77 for seventh and eighth behind Braden Dalton (77), who won the tiebreaker to give Geneva second with the same overall score as the North Stars. The Vikings' Grant Douglas (78) rounded out the top 10.

West Aurora (324) as team produced a consistent effort with Brandon Vicory and Kyle McCradic shooting 80 and Jeff Etter and Chad Becker shooting 82.

Larkin (330) finished seventh, edging out Hoffman Estates by 3 strokes, while Ryan Smith (77) was able to take ninth overall with Michael Sainz (80), Scott Hamm (82) and Luc Geier (91) providing the final three Royals scores.

Dundee-Crown finished 1 stroke ahead of the Royals for sixth place with Jordan Nelson (82), Jarrett Wollenberg (82), Steve Cathony (82) and Matt Thomas (83) providing the scores.

Garret Eddy shot an 81 for Streamwood (363) as the Sabres finished ninth.

"Garret wasn't happy especially since he shoots in the 70s regularly," said Sabres coach George Rosner.

Elgin finished 10th with Devin Skopek (81) providing the only score under 100.
