Geneva back in thick of WSC race

The Geneva boys golf team needed a little help from its counterparts from DeKalb, and the Barbs' deed gave the squad new life against Batavia.

DeKalb ended the undefeated Western Sun Conference run by Rochelle Tuesday afternoon, and by virtue of its 154-157 victory over Batavia Wednesday at Eagle Brook in Geneva, the Vikings and Hubs are in a first-place tie at 6-1.

The conference tournament is Wednesday at Fox Bend in Oswego.

"(The DeKalb victory) actually helps out everybody," said Geneva coach Bill Koehn, whose squad was led by twin 37s from Grant Douglas and Braden Dalton against the Bulldogs.

"Batavia (4-2) is still in it. Whoever plays well on the day of the conference tournament is going to win the title. You better bring your 'A' game with you next Wednesday if you want to win the conference."

Jeff Paustian added a 38 for the Vikings, who also received matching 42s from Braden Thompson and Cole Oosthuizen to seize control.

Shaun Steurer and Collin Huber were the low scorers for Batavia with 38s.
