Briefs: RC2 recall present recalled too

OAK BROOK -- RC2 Corp. on Friday said it is "embarrassed" by the recall of its Toad vehicles sent out to customers to compensate them for the loss from the company's 1.5 million recall of Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway toys in June. Citing excess levels of lead in its Chinese-made toys, the Oak Brook-based firm also recalled 269,000 toys on Wednesday. The Toad recall affects about 2,000 of the 146,000 recipients of the compensatory toy but all recipients of the "free" toy are being notified of the recall, the firm said.

Need to dial 1 in 630 area code

Residential and business customers with area code 630 phone numbers should be prepared for the introduction of the 331 area code Oct. 7, said AT&T. At that time, people will be required to dial 1 plus the area code plus the seven-digit number when making calls. All customers who have a 630 area code today will keep it. Phone numbers with the new 331 area code will be issued after Oct. 7.
