Ochoa in position to defend

Defending champion Lorena Ochoa shot a 5-under 67 Friday to take a 1-shot lead after the second round of the Samsung World Championship in Palm Desert, Calif.

Ochoa's bogey-free round moved her to 9-under 135 through 36 holes, 1 shot in front of Paula Creamer, Angela Park and Angela Stanford.

Stanford moved into contention with the lowest round of the day, a 66. Creamer and Park, who were tied for the lead after the first day, had second-round 69s.

For Michelle Wie, it was another bad day in a mostly bad year on the course, her round including shots straying into brush and water on the way to her second consecutive 79. She remained in 20th and last place in the elite field.

Frys.com Open: Garrett Willis shot a 10-under 62 on the TPC Summerlin course in Las Vegas for a share of the second-round lead in the Frys.com Open.

D.J. Trahan and rookie George McNeill matched Willis at 13-under 130. McNeill shot a 7-under 64 on the par-71 TPC The Canyons course, and Trahan had a 64 on the same course in an event missing all of the world's top-20 players.

Jason Gore and John Huston were tied for fourth at 12 under.

John Daly bounced back from a first-round 74 with a 9-under 63 on Summerlin -- shooting an 8-under 28 on the back nine -- to put him at 6 under for the tournament.

World Match Play: U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera beat defending champion Paul Casey 4 and 3 in the second round of the European Tour's World Match Play Championship in Virginia Water, England.

Six-time champion Ernie Els beat Andres Romero 6 and 5, and Henrik Stenson and Hunter Mahan also advanced. Stenson, the Accenture Match Play Championship winner in February, beat Anders Hansen 7 and 6, and Mahan topped Soren Hansen 6 and 4.

In today's semifinals, Cabrera will play Mahan, and Els will face Stenson.

Administaff Small Business Classic: Bernhard Langer shot a 10-under 62 to take a 4-stroke lead after the first round of the Administaff Small Business Classic in Spring, Texas.

Langer, the German star playing his fourth Champions Tour event, needed only 24 putts to match the best round of the season on the tour. The two-time Masters champion broke the Augusta Pines record of 63 set by Jay Haas last year in the second round.

Texan Tom Kite, winless in his home state, was tied for second at 66 with Mark McNulty, Craig Stadler, Tom Jenkins, John Ross and Jeff Sluman.
