Driver gets 4 years in fatal DuPage Co. DUI

A tragic error in judgment will equal a four-year prison sentence for a Darien man who killed his best friend in an alcohol-related car crash.

Justin D. Lind, 28, of Darien pleaded guilty to aggravated drunken driving on May 27, 2006. Lind also was speeding when he lost control of his 1989 Chevrolet Caprice near Westmont. His passenger, Jason Hydzik, 27, also of Darien, perished.

During a sentencing in DuPage County court today, Lind pleaded for forgiveness from the Hydzik family.

"As long as I live, I will know what's been taken away from you," he said. "I'll never be able to fix this."

Paulette Hydzik told Judge Robert Anderson the anguish of her son's death would never go away.

"Now I am plagued by visions of my son in a coffin," she said.
