Rockets to play at United Center

The Burlington Central boys basketball team will be facing Oregon at the United Center on Friday, December 28 at 3 p.m. and the Chicago Bulls will take on the Milwaukee Bucks at 7:30 p.m. later that evening.

Fans will be able to enter the United Center through Gate 6 beginning at 2:30 p.m. All fans must have a game ticket to enter. Parking will be available in Lot K located on the south side of the United Center.

Westminster coaching openings: Westminster Christian High School is searching for a head sophomore baseball coach, a track and field coach and a head softball coach to start a softball program for the 2008 spring season.

Candidates must have a valid Illinois teaching certificate, a sub certificate, or be ASEP certified.

Judson men No. 2 seed: By winning the CCAC regular season and tournament titles, Judson University's men's soccer team was seeded second in the NAIA Region VII Tournament. The Eagles thius receive a first-round bye.

Judson, 12-4-3 on the year, is seeded behind St. Ambrose University. Judson will not know who it plays as there will be a re-seeding after the quarterfinal matches. The four teams playing on Friday are No. 3 Grand View vs. No. 6 Olivet Nazarene and No. 4 St. Xavier vs. No. 5 Trinity International.

The semifinal and championship matches are being played at the Burlington RecPlex in Burlington, Iowa, on November 5-6. JU will play its semifinal match on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Judson players earn awards: Continuing its success in the CCAC, the Judson University men's soccer team put six players on the all-conference team with four on the first-team. JU also had the CCAC Player of the Year in Steven Moldenhauer.

Being named to the all-CCAC first-team were seniors Mark Howlett and Moldenhauer, junior Gustavo Oliveira, and freshman Neil Thompson. Oliveira was the only unanimous choice for the first team. Garnering all-CCAC second team honors were juniors Petar Bajic and Vitor Bravo.

Howlett, who led the CCAC in points (1.68 ppg) and goals (1.13 pg), has 13 goals on the year and 32 points. He had eight goals vs. CCAC opponents and 19 points. He was named the CCAC Player of the Week three times and the NAIA Region VII Player of the Week once. In the CCAC Tournament championship match, he scored the lone goal for the 1-0 win over St. Xavier.

Moldenhauer was named the CCAC Player of the Year for his defensive skills. He has guided JU to 6 shutouts with five in CCAC matches. He has recorded 2 goals and 2 assists for 6 points. This is the second year in a row that JU has had the CCAC Player of the Year as Jesus Saiz was given the award last year.

Being named the only unanimous choice for the all-CCAC first team was Oliveira. In the CCAC, he is fifth in points (1.44 pg) and 12th in goals (0.40 pg). Overall, he averages 1.35 points per game with 8 goals and 11 assists on the year. He has been the CCAC Player of the Week once and the NCCAA National Player of the Week once. He had a career-high 2 goals and 2 assists vs. St. Francis for 6 points and he also had the security goal vs. Olivet Nazarene in the CCAC semifinals.

Picking up five shutouts in 15 matches played, Thompson was named to the first team. Four of his five shutouts have come against CCAC opponents. He is second in the CCAC in saves per game (5.75) with 46 and tied for third in goals against average (0.62). Overall, he has 72 saves and a 0.93 GAA. He recorded a career-high 11 saves in a 2-2 tie vs. Illinois Tech.

Voted onto the all-CCAC second team were Petar Bajic and Bravo as midfielders. Bajic has started 19 games and has 2 goals and 4 assists. Bravo recorded two goals and two assists in 19 games played while starting 18.
