Two men charged in Mt. Prospect home invasion
Two men were charged on Monday with one count of home invasion each after police said they entered a Mount Prospect apartment, beat up its occupant and stole money to get home.
Edgar M. Rodriguez, 24, of 3012 N. Kilpatrick Ave. in Chicago and Mario Arroyo, 23, of 1816 N. 17th Ave. in Melrose Park walked into an open door of an apartment at 305 Enterprise Drive in the Colony Apartments, police said.
About 3:45 a.m. Sunday, police said, a 55-year-old man was watching TV with his door open to get fresh air when the men entered and began hitting him as he sat in his chair.
The pair ransacked his bedroom before finding $30 in the kitchen and telling the victim that they needed money to get home, according to police.
The victim called police after the pair left.
An Elk Grove Village police officer spotted two men under an overpass of the Northwest Tollway at Oakton Street who matched the description of the offenders. The men were held there until the victim arrived and identified them, police said.
The men were being held in the Mount Prospect police station awaiting a bond hearing today, police said.
