Two men rob Libertyville Walgreens
Two men held up a Libertyville drug store Thursday night, the first armed robbery in the village since 2004, police said.
No one was hurt in the robbery at Walgreens, 1470 S. Milwaukee Ave. The thieves fled with an unknown sum of cash.
The stickup happened about 10:45 p.m. while the store was open and full of customers, Police Chief Pat Carey said. It lasted just a few seconds, he said.
The two thieves, who were wearing ski masks, entered the store and went to the front counter, police said. At least one was armed with a handgun, police said.
One of the thieves went behind the counter and took money out the register, and then both fled. They were last seen headed north on foot, police said.
Mundelein and Vernon Hills officers helped Libertyville police search the area for the suspects but didn't find them. Carey suspects they drove off in a car parked nearby.
Police will examine the store's security video for clues.
