Hoffman Estates crash kills woman

A 55-year-old woman died Monday in a two-vehicle accident on Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates, police said.

Rosemary McGowan of southwest suburban Orland Park died at 7:10 p.m. Monday at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, about five hours after her Chevrolet Malibu was hit by a Dodge Durango SUV, Lt. Rich Russo said.

At 2:08 p.m., McGowan was driving east on Higgins Road when she made an improper left turn north on Governors Lane into the path of the SUV, which was motoring west on Higgins Road, Russo said.

The driver of the SUV, Miroslaw Majzner of Barrington Hills, wasn't injured, Russo added.

Russo said an investigation concluded McGowan was the at-fault driver, and no tickets were issued, as Majzner had a green light.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and drugs and alcohol did not contribute to the crash, Russo said.
