New Web site helps you shop Mt. Prospect

Mount Prospect is making it easier to go shopping this season with its latest addition to the village Web site, which showcases downtown shops and retail events this holiday season.

Just click on the village Web site: www.mountprospect.org and go to its latest link at the bottom of the page called Experience Mount Prospect - Holiday Edition.

Launched after Thanksgiving, the new link is meant to be a holiday guide to the village's shopping, dining and events.

For instance, when you click on the events section, there's a listing of holiday happenings and retail promotions.

If you're hoping to find that special gift, the shopping link offers a listing of featured specialty shops. And if you get hungry while you're downtown, the dining link directs you to some fun places to eat.

The site will be updated regularly with new happenings. Each week, there's a new shopping theme. This week, it's party planning, so part of the link is devoted to what you need to throw a holiday bash.

It's only a winter holiday addition; it will be discontinued after the first of the year, said Maura El Metennai, a village spokeswoman.

The new link is in cooperation with the Downtown Merchants' Association and the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce, she said.

There's also a holiday e-newsletter. If you sign up on the village's Web site, information on special offers, coupons and a chance to win a $100 gift certificate are sent directly to your e-mail account.

A retail consultant working with the village suggested the village modify its Web site to help residents navigate the many shopping opportunities in the village, El Metennani said.
