Mount Prospect parade canceled due to ice storm fears

Mount Prospect has canceled today's holiday parade due to predicted ice storms, village officials said Friday.

The parade had been scheduled to step off at 5 p.m., beginning at Lion Park. It was supposed to be one of the highlights of the village's weekend Winter Festival Extravaganza

However, there are other events to enjoy in the village this weekend.

From 10 a.m. to noon today, the Mount Prospect Public Library will hold its annual Teddy Bear Walk. Children and their favorite teddy bears will join Ted E. Bear for a short stroll. The event ends at village hall with the arrival of Santa Claus, escorted by the Mount Prospect Fire Department.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Friendship Park Conservatory, 395 Algonquin Road in Des Plaines, will host the Mount Prospect Park District's Holiday Open House.

You'll be served hot cider and cookies, while listening to holiday music and looking over holiday floral displays.

There'll be crafts for the kids, ice sculptures and an opportunity for photos with Santa and live reindeer. Admission is free.

On Sunday, the Mount Prospect Community Band will present its holiday concert at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 605 W. Golf Road. The concert, titled "Christmas Spirit," will feature a variety of familiar holiday melodies and favorite carols.
