Shaw buys DeKalb newspaper

Shaw Newspapers, based in Dixon, announced Tuesday the acquisition of the Daily Chronicle, The MidWeek and affiliated publications from Lee Enterprises.

Shaw has newspapers, niche publications and Web sites in Dixon, Sterling, Princeton, Morris, Geneva, and Crystal Lake, and in Newton and Creston, Iowa.

Tom Shaw, president and CEO of Shaw Newspapers, said in a statement his company had a long-standing interest in the DeKalb daily. The DeKalb operation will become a division of Shaw Suburban Media, headquartered in Crystal Lake.

Mary Junck, chairman and chief executive officer of Lee Enterprises, said in a statement the DeKalb operation would benefit from Shaw's regional focus.
