Lab test to identify cancer drug effects

WESTMONT -- Targeted Molecular Diagnostics announced Wednesday the commercial availability of a new laboratory test to help identify colorectal cancer patients who are resistant to certain targeted monoclonal antibody therapies. K-ras mutations are known to be associated with resistance to drug inhibitors, especially in non-small cell lung cancer. Mutated K-ras genes have been detected in about 40 percent of metastatic colorectal cancers.

Landscape firm honored for design

GENEVA -- Landscape architectural firm, The Lannert Group, will receive the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects' 2007 President's Award in recognition of the firm's innovative storm water recovery design for Midwest Groundcover. Using biowales, filtration basins and native plants, Midwest Groundcover's new 280-acre Virgil, Ill., plant is able to recycle 98 percent of its rainfall and irrigation water.
