Why develop such beautiful place?
Why would anyone stymie the efforts of the Kane County Forest Preserve District to preserve the Brunner farm property? This land is without doubt the most beautiful open space left in Dundee Township.
Its preservation would provide us with a better quality of life, recreational opportunities, flood control, and a preserve for wildlife. When viewed from the Fox River, you get the impression of being in the wilderness looking at stately oak trees with herons and egrets flying overhead.
Carpentersville officials want to see the land developed. We know how well dense development has worked out for us. Development brings higher taxes, more traffic, a need for more police and fire protection, and an impact on our school district.
It takes a complete lack of vision to think that the best use for the hundreds of acres of open land is to pave it over and impact our quality of life.
Officials see the Longmeadow (BoIz Road) highway and bridge as a path to further development. The project is intended to reduce traffic congestion, not add to it with grandiose plans by Carpentersville officials that will compound our problems. They fail to understand the concept of preservation as a means to improving the lives of residents and the image of a community.
Thank goodness that the land in question is private property and not annexed into Carpentersville. The owner holds the fate of the last great parcel of open space in his hands and officials who would turn down a gift worth millions of dollars to residents of Dundee Township don't have the final say.
