Palatine group raises $30,000 for food pantry

They said it couldn't be done, but students from Fremd and Palatine high schools are enthusiastically proving doubters wrong.

Before the Fremd vs. Palatine basketball games Nov. 30 at Palatine High School, the members of the Youth Hunger Opposition in Palatine, or YHOP, conducted a bake sale to raise money for the Palatine Township Food Pantry, which serves about 180 families in the area.

They raised $700 at the bake sale, according to YHOP head Kellie Kinsella, a Fremd senior. That brings the total raised to a little more than $30,000 over the last two months.

Students also sold T-shirts, which will give pantry officials money so they can buy items that are easily depleted. More events are planned in the future.
