Trainer focuses on body and mind at BeWell Fitness in Libertyville
Ben Wellenbach's business goal involves helping clients perform better, whether it's on the athletic field or at home raising a family.
The entrepreneur recently opened BeWell Fitness, a Libertyville training facility offering strength and conditioning or personal training. He targets high school athletes as well as adults.
The former athlete offers one-hour training sessions for individuals or small groups by appointment only. Wellenbach works with clients at his club, 1753 N. Wind Blvd. at Route 45 and Peterson Road.
He emphasizes on designing a customized workout. He uses cardio equipment and a variety of other exercises to offer the best workout.
"I create a map for somebody to give them the proper direction, to get them to the proper destination," Wellenbach said.
Wellenbach grew up in Boston where he played four varsity sports at Lawrence Academy. He then played varsity hockey at Lake Forest College. Wellenbach's first strength coach and mentor was Michael Boyle, an Olympic hockey trainer. The Lake County business owner uses many of the same skills and philosophies as Boyle.
Wellenbach said his facility is different than a traditional health club in that he is able to offer a specific plan that's easy to follow.
He has seen many people walk into a larger health club and not understand what exercises to do to benefit their body. "All these people need is a personal trainer to build the foundation under them," said Wellenbach, 28. He said even the best golfer still feels the need for a coach.
Wellenbach resides in Grayslake with his wife, Karie, who he met in college. She works as a teacher in Waukegan.
Wellenbach said what sets him apart from other trainers is his philosophy. "I really do my best to help people believe what they think unbelievable. And I help them make possible what they think is impossible," he said.
He charges between $25 and $50 per hour for group sessions and between $60 and $75 for individual training.

Planning a party? Creative Events hosts a Bar/Bat Mitzvah Party Planning Showcase at Lakeside Family Sports Complex in Lake Zurich.
The free event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Free food, dancing, batting cages, golf simulators, miniature golf, disc jockeys and more will part of the event at 143 E. Main St.
Allyne Agrest co-owns Northbrook-based Creative Events and is organizing the showcase. She plans to have several companies on hand that can be utilized when planning an important event. They include Images by KC, Photographic View, Woodys hot dogs, Creative Centerpieces, Spinnin Discs, Chariszma, Designed Cuisine, Catering by Michaels and Xpress Video Productions.
