Conant students get 'Loose' on stage

Conant High School students are giving audiences their spin on an 1980s classic with the Hoffman Estate school's production of "Footloose: The Musical."

The play, which opened Friday and continues this weekend, is an adaptation of the 1984 film starring Kevin Bacon as a Chicago teenager dumped in a rural farming community in Oklahoma.

In the film, the teen and his other classmates want to have a senior prom, but the community frowns upon dancing and music. So Bacon's character, Ren McCormack, takes it upon himself to get around the law and set the town free with music.

The film's soundtrack featured a number of hits, including Kenny Loggins' title track "Footloose," and "Let's Hear It For the Boy," by Deniece Williams, which both hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The lead roles at Conant are played by Jessi Danca, Mark Pontarelli, Johnny Pontarelli, Ethan Anderson, Sara Brannan, Jeanette Perry, Kerry McCormack, Holly Baker, Tim Holmer, Michael Malabanan, Alex George and Sydney Vaughn.
