'Made' for each other (and Web contests)

Schaumburg's Jerry Giuliano and his fiancee Katie Schad apparently have a knack for knot-related contests.

Two months after winning a 1-800-Flowers-sponsored contest for their YouTube wedding proposal video, the couple is now among four finalists to win a red carpet wedding on April 28 in New York before the premiere of the Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy "Made of Honor."

Prizes includes a designer wedding gown, two wedding rings, flowers and tux rentals.

The 26-year-old Giulaino said Schad convinced him to enter after the two saw an online ad about the contest.

"It would be a cool way to get married," he said.

Online votes will determine the winner.

The couple's minute-long video chronicles an important moment in their relationship, when Giuliano made a surprise visit to Schad while she was studying in Spain in 2004.

While Schad, 24, said she wouldn't mind planning her own wedding, she'd be just as happy to win the contest and not have to sweat the details.

"It just seems really exciting," she said.

The couple got into the final four -- out of more than 1,800 entries, Giuliano said -- on the strength of an essay.

Giuliano studied graphic design in college, and both videos share similar art direction, including fluorescent colors and on-screen text. Schad spent the last two weeks in Mexico, and the two e-mailed other video clips during that time to produce the newer video.

If they win this time around, they'll also receive a fully paid European honeymoon. Coincidentally, their prizes in February included a honeymoon at a Sandals Resort.

"I guess we would have two. We could use them back-to-back for an extra long honeymoon," Schad said.

Schad and Giuliano met five years ago at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She's a substitute teacher who plans to start graduate school in the fall, while he works at an Arlington Heights dental lab.
