Cops say Streamwood man had gun, 4 pounds of cannabis in car

Bartlett police say they pulled over a 22-year-old man and found a loaded gun and four pounds of marijuana in his car.

Brian Villagas, 22, of 133 Abbeywood Circle in Streamwood, was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at Route 20 near Route 59 in Bartlett, and charged with felony possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police Sgt. Michael McGuigan said.

Villagas, who'd been stopped for a broken taillight, was also subsequently charged for having no rear registration light and driving on a suspended license, police said.

About 1,860 grams of pot were found in packets on the passenger's seat, McGuigan said. Villagas didn't have a firearm owner's ID card with him, and the gun was not securely stored in the car, McGuigan said.

He added there was no indication that the loaded, .38-caliber Taurus special revolver had been recently fired. Authorities are still working to determine if the gun was properly registered, McGuigan said.

Villagas also declined to tell police where he was coming from or going, authorities said. He appeared in court Wednesday morning in Rolling Meadows and was given a $75,000 bond. His next court date is May 19.
