Wrap: Grant's Wagner, Carmel sparkle

It was a record-setting day for Grant's Bailey Wagner at the Wauconda Invitational.

Again.

On Friday, she broke the meet and field records she set just one year ago in shot put and discus.

Her efforts weren't quite enough, however, to lift the Bulldogs to the team title.

That went to Carmel.

The Corsairs collected 145.5 points in the nine-team field, ahead of Deerfield (138), Grant (98), Vernon Hills (65) and host Wauconda (47.5). Round Lake finished seventh with 13 points.

Wagner destroyed her old discus record of 143-feet-11.2. Her new best was a throw of 154-07.

Wagner's first place throw in the shot put went for a distance of 45-10.25, besting her old record of 45-07.

Meanwhile, Shannon Howell earned two first-place finishes to lead Carmel's charge.

She won the 100-meter hurdles (16.3) and 300 hurdles (49.6).

Also getting multiple wins was Danielle Dickman of Vernon Hills. She won the 1,600 (5:35.6) and 3,200 (11:59.6).
