See's newest store opens in Algonquin

If you've never indulged your sweet tooth with a piece of See's Candies, you'll get the chance this weekend.

The California-based company is expanding its presence in the Illinois market. See's Candies already has a store in Downers Grove, and now is opening its second area spot along the Randall Road corridor in Algonquin.

Delivery trucks already have been rolling into the area chock-full of sweet confections and boxes emblazoned with the picture of Mary See, whose recipes helped launch the company in the 1920s.

On Friday, See's doors will open to the public at 9 a.m. at 2513 County Line Road, just north of Mimi's Cafe, and just in front of Trader Joe's on the west side of Randall.

After a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m., See's will hold an open house featuring giveaways such as free samples, See's Happy Habit hats and gourmet lollipops.

On Friday and Saturday, See's also will have some of its historical delivery vehicles on hand, as well as two of See's famous drag racing cars.

The open house continues through Sunday.

It'll be your chance to try the candy for the first time, or if you're already a fan, to come back for more.

The chocolate is made in kitchens in San Francisco and Los Angeles, then shipped fresh to more than 200 shops throughout the United States.

The company makes more than 100 varieties of candies including its signature milk chocolate bordeaux and classic butter cream.

If you can't make it to the open house this weekend, don't worry. See's, which is known for its sparkling clean black and white décor and old-fashioned service in all of its shops, always gives you a free sample when you stop in, said Christie Stewart, spokeswoman for the company.

Discovering Dania: What's Dania? Many of you have seen the sign for the new Dania store going up in Algonquin's Galleria, but I've received calls from a few of you who don't know what the store is.

Dania is a furniture store. It has been around for 40 years, and the furniture has a European design.

You should be able to stop inside and see for yourself before long -- or check it out on the Web: www.daniafurniture.com

Help the kids: If you stop into Culver's in Carpentersville along Randall Road, you'll see signs all around for Camp I Am Me.

The restaurant is collecting small monetary donations for the camp where burn survivors can go to share their feelings and just have fun -- without feeling self-conscious about their scars.
