'Sex' and the suburbs

Jenna Tarantino wasn't sure what type of bachelorette party she wanted or when it would happen.

In fact, all the South Elgin woman did know is a night filled with tacky novelties wouldn't suit her.

So when Tarantino heard what's brewing next weekend at Hilton Indian Lakes in Bloomingdale, the bride-to-be knew exactly how to celebrate her last night as a single girl: "Sex and the Suburbs."

Starting May 30, the Bloomingdale resort will offer an overnight hotel, party and movie package based around the release of the "Sex and the City" film (also happening Friday).

And in the spirit of Carrie Bradshaw, her pals and their cosmopolitan style, the event includes a VIP penthouse party, tickets to see the movie at Hollywood Blvd. in Woodridge, a hotel stay and more.

"It's perfect," said Tarantino, "It's a total girl thing, and I decided to make it my bachelorette party because this just suits my personality way more."

So Tarantino, her bridal party and more than 100 other women who've booked the sold-out event will ditch their men for the evening and make a date with people they can always count on -- their girlfriends.

Jamie Martin, spokeswoman for Hilton Indian Lakes, said she knew "Sex and the Suburbs" would be a hit when she planned it.

Of course other hotels in major cities around the country are offering "Sex and the City" theme packages, including Four Seasons Hotel Chicago starting at $1830 and Affina Hotel New York City for $450.

But Martin wanted something that would appeal to suburban women and go easy on their wallets.

"People really love it, and it sold out so quickly," Martin said.

That's why she's extending the package, which costs $209 total for four friends, and offering it again June 6-7.

And as for the men left behind? Tarantino thinks most guys, including her fiance, Josh Hancock, won't mind missing out on Manolos and martinis for one night.

"I think he'd rather watch baseball with his buddies," she said.
